Girls Under Glass is a excentric, but overall underrated German band who are active for over 20 years in the wave and gothic musical world now. Once risen from the ashes of Cancer Barrack, residing in Hamburg and started out as a adventurous gothic band that after some years started to move in the direction of harsh electro-metal through the influences of Ministry and NIN and then started to experiment with influences from electro and pop music after a while. Girls Under Glass now is with a new label, and a sublabel (‘Cellardoor’) is founded especially for them to give them an appropiate place, which is completely justified with this band. This band has got it all to really make a break-through in these times with this musical constellation, if they aim their arrows on it. Girls Under Glass is a band that like Oomph! bears the seeds of success with them for many years already. The waiting was for the right moment. The extraordinary well done cover version of Madonna’s hit ‘Frozen’ and the collaboration with Peter Heppner of Wolfsheim were the first signs, and this path is taken further with the single ‘Ohne Dich’, on which net to the typical voice of Volker Zacharias also guest vocals by Peter Spilles of Project Pitchfork are to be found. This single is the appetizer for the new album ‘Zyklus’, due to be released in january 2005. The additional remix has been done by Axel Ermes, of the band itself. The beats are heavier and the electronic sounds are more prominent in the song. ‘Under My Skin’ is a very nice and sensitive ballad, but the true magic of Girls Under Glass, in which guitars and atmosphere go together perfectly well, is to be found in ‘Trust Me’, which is a marvellous track. The single is only released in a very limited digipack version with two B sides as a bonus. I m eagerly looking forward to the new album
