Urban Night Motifs

<< Back

‘Urban Night Motifs’ is already the third album from Heimstatt Yipotash on the respected Hands label. What is very noticeable with Heimstatt Yipotash is his way of making a very interesting combination of powernoise and electro-industrial, with weird sounds, rhythms and patterns.

His new work seems to represent a sleazy midnight album based in the urban jungle of humanity. The first track, ‘In Statu Nasceni’, gives way to this feeling. Sleazy electro synths and a distorted rhythm. ‘Get Lost’ puts us straight into a dirty groove. ‘Breathe In, Freak Out’ is a hard and gritty powernoise track, beating up your ears as much as possible. ‘Augmented Reality’ uses very minimal electro melodies and a more laidback approach. A highlight is the track ‘Metro Dwellers’, which uses a very good and groovy rhythm that will not allow you to be passive and will make you dance. A song that perfectly fits within the urban night motifs.  ‘Well Oiled Crescent’ is a nice retro electro track with lots of sleazy minimal nightclub sounds. This continues with the next track ‘Pavement Chicks’, but with heavier beats and rhythms added. A nice change of sounds again is ‘Mis/Dis/Un/In/Anti’. The song is mid-tempo and uses more abstract rhythms. There are also well-chosen melodic sounds to be heard. ‘Taepodong-2’ goes for an all out noise approach where everything is saturated. The album ends with ‘Urban Night Motifs (Club 71)’ which is again a very groovy and urban-sounding song with rusty rhythms. A song that will definitely makes you move!

‘Urban Night Motifs’ is a very good album. This album shows the next step in the Heimstatt Yipotash discography. While a lot of the sounds are becoming trademark sounds for this project, there’s still room for experiments, which is always a big plus. The chosen album title also is a very good representation of what this album is going for. While this is a very rhythm oriented album, with some very interesting club tracks, the album is also very much suited for headphone listening to hear all the subtle intricacies. Recommended!
