Wayward Souls

<< Back

It seems that autumn 2009 does have a few surprises in stock. Wayward Souls of the American solo musician/storyteller named Splinterskin is one of these surprises. The minimal dark folk music created on the Album Wayward souls has a vibrant dark tune and definitely has an unique and intriguing character. Created by a nylon string guitar, the dark voice of Splinterskin itself, violin, dulcimer, hollowed wood, tin can, bones, sticks, rain, thunder, leaves as well as the natural sounds of autumn & nature itself. Splinterskin manages to enthral its audience with its simple yet effective music. The illusive fantasy like tales told on the seventeen sometimes remind me of poems of Tim Burton or a darker version of The Brothers Grimm. With titles such Dancing Dead Men, Something In The Walls and A Horrible Night To Have A Curse you should have a decent impression on what Wayward Souls is all about. The artwork of the album as well as music and lyrics manage to enchant me with its unique and dark concoctions. So dear reader; purchase this album, darken your room, put on some candles and frankincense and enjoy these interesting tales with a glass of whine. You surely won’t be disappointed. A recommendation which will end up high in my year list, I can assure you!
