Reign Ov Opposites

<< Back

These Brazilians sound as if they know exactly the coldness and loneliness feel the third wave Norwegian black metal bands sung about. To my knowledge in Brazil it is not as cold as in Norway, but the misanthropy that Vinterthron preaches is just as cold as those that knew the cold Norwegian winter winds like Darkthrone, Immortal or even Mayhem.

‘Reign Ov Opposites’ is a good black metal album. The musicians may not be the most skilled and the arrangements not the most sophisticated but the atmosphere they evoke is nothing short of powerful. This has to do with the classic black metal production and the very aggressive voice that reminds one of Immortal’s Abbath. I met a guy last month that told me he was heavily into Brazilian and Mexican black metal nowadays, because in his eyes, that was where they still kept the true black metal spirit alive.

So when you think Anaal Nathrakh went pop, Deathspell Omega is too sophisticated, Darkthrone went after the Sex Pistols and Immortal after Motörhead, you will be pleased that there are still parts in this world were they sing with unrelenting strength those black hymns you once learned to love. Black metal is not dead.
