Art of Infinity is new to me, but they have already some albums out, from 2000 already. On the cd it reads āfile under: ambient progressiveā, this sounds rather as a popular and slick genre description to me, but that is exactly what this album is; ambient pop, music to relax to, with vocals included for free.
Most of the material contain lyrics and have a very Enya feel here and there. Some track make use of a saxophone, such as āEndless Futureā, which is a fine track altogether. Some of the tracks make use of nice spatial sounds, but it isnāt an album as you would expect from the title; it isnāt space ambient, like Steve Roach and Robert Rich create. The production qualities are very high and sounds very slick as this could also instantly be the soundtrack to some unmade movie. Though, it does lack some tension and is a bit too poppy here and there. For the connoisseurs of the ambient music realm, one has to take this album more as a pop album with a heavy dose of ambient sounds and structures implemented. There are some very long tracks on this album, with the longest (āUtopiaā) almost clocking at 19 minutes. This track also reminds me in some places of Mind.in.a.Box, perhaps because of some of the male vocals and the spherical sounds.
Though this album sounds very good as far a sound quality goes, itās a little bit too poppy for my taste. It isnāt a bad album in the least; itās more a personal thing. There are a lot of ideas in this album, lots of sounds and instruments, but still I miss something. It also sounds a bit too much like a collaboration between Vangelis and Enya in places. Itās a slick product, but a bit too slick. What is comes down to, for me at least, is an album which sounds very great and crystal clear, but is a bit too shallow and impersonal. Itās nice too pick up for a more mainstream audience, people who are into Enya for example, but for the more deeper ambient connoisseur, itās better to listen to it first.
