Severed

<< Back

Broken Fabiola is the idm side-project of Karloz M. , better known from the powernoise industrial act Manufactura. The previous Broken Fabiola release has been released quite some time ago so a new recording is surely welcome as the previous material sounded interesting enough. With Severed, Karloz presents a well balanced sound with influences from industrial noise, idm and ambient. The atmosphere of the ambient and idm with rhythmic noise elements is mostly almost symphonic but in some tracks, like ‘Departure’ it has more of a laid back downtempo triphop atmosphere which is enhanced further by the sultry vocals from Sharon Blackstone and Nissa. The sound spectrum is furthermore made of broken beats and warm ambient sounds with the occasional typical rhythm industrial influence. It mostly is the emotion which gets addressed in the sound on Severed and this is intricately achieved with intelligent programming of layers of sound and the use of supportive rhythms. The soundscapes on Severed perhaps are a bit on the dark side but they do guarantee a satisfying listening experience that also sounds quite relaxed, despite the sporadic industrial eruptions. Musical contributions are present of Shane Talada (Marching Dynamics / The Operative), Daniel Myer (Architect / Haujobb), Scott Sturgis (Converter / Pain Station) and Dre Robinson (Databomb / Download).  Perhaps not as delicate and refined in sound as Mnemonic or Ab Ovo but it surely is a record that you will be playing more than once since it is such a pleasure to listen to.
