The Sea & The Silence

<< Back

ESA, the hard industrial project of Jamie Blacker, is a hard worker. We got his second album in the beginning of this year, and now with the year almost behind us, he gives us his third album as a present to finish off the year. With the first two albums released at Hive Records, it’s now time for Tympanik Audio, again, to release his third output.

We start the album quite atmospheric with ‘Tasting Nails’. Various little sounds surrounds the listener before the rhythm kicks in. Various noises are added and a nice beat is to be heard. A nice mid-tempo song to start an album with. Want some real powernoise stomping? The second track, ‘Absolute Fury (In Its Very Fabrikc)’, is the answer. Hard rhythms, screaming vocals and screeching sounds, this for sure will be a club smasher!

With the next song, ‘It’s Hard To Sleep, In Hell’, we take a little step back from the hard noise, this one is more atmospheric. Still has plenty of beats, but it’s more electro/techno oriented. The next two tracks are tied together in the section ‘The Sea & The Silence’. The first of the two, ‘The Sea’, starts with spoken word which reminds me somewhat of Anne Clark. Somewhat later in the song hard beats again kick in, with the spoken word continuing. Then we get ‘The Sea’, which is very atmospheric and has a lot of Middle-Eastern/Asian influences in it. It has some very nice rhythm patterns and vocal parts. Not at all what you would expect after the other tracks, so a very nice surprise. With a title like ‘Dead Fucking Desire’, you’d expect where back to stomping powernoise, and you would be right. Hard beats with both screaming male and female vocals, feels somewhat like an Ambassador21 song in parts, very cool one!

The next track, ‘Your Anger Is A Gift’, has again hard beats and sounds, but in a more fucked-up way. The eighth track, ‘Open To Me Your Black And Bitter Heart’, is more of a very dark and short intermezzo. The next track, ‘Randomly Selected Drawbacks Of The Human Condition Pt 2’ is again a nice surprise in sound, as it uses very atmospheric guitars. It’s also the follow up to the same titled song on his second album. This is a very beautiful song to listen and relax to. The guitars sound very nice and there are some very beautiful female vocals to be heard.

The last song, ‘The Devil Worships Me’, is very long, as it also includes the hidden track ‘All You Brought To Me Was Fucking Nothing!’. The first part is more experimental in sound. As the song progresses, more rhythms kick in. It also takes great use of modulating synths. After some silence we get the hidden track, which is again a hard powernoise song.

ESA again created a great and diverse album with lots of influences and sounds. This one will do very good in clubs, but also a home. And it’s again Tympanik Audio who have another great release in their catalogue, with, yet again, some beautiful artwork. Recommended!
