Violins and a harmonium are swirling in the cold sky like the horsemen of the apocalypse in crystal colours and with sharp angles. Swirling around your head, hypnotizing. Then a slow simple bass melody sets in followed by massive beats. A repetitive slightly psychedelic and mesmerizing structure. The beat becomes more dominant while the violins disappear toward the back ground. A very minimal musical approach but very hypnotizing. A deeply melancholic melody carried by the dramatic vocals of Stef Heeren. “Between Skylla and Charybdis” is a sixteen minutes long epic piece which is dramatic and doom ridden.

The buzzing paranoia of Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat is less about song structure then about repetitive structures going straight into the subconscious like the hypnotic mantra of “Dyptich” starting with a shaman dance. A mesmerizing harmonium melody goes along with the dramatic mantra with a deep emotional impact. Less is more and that is what KTAOABC proves here with this simple but very convincing piece spiritual unease.

Only three tracks on this little masterpiece with a duration just above thirty minutes ending with “Miserere”, an acoustic track of psychedelic folk music. When I did hear Stef’s voice for the first time I had to think about Marc Almond and Gavin Friday. Musically I would place KTAOABC somewhere between psychedelic folk and post rock and Nebulous dreams is an absolute fabulous album containing best elements of these genres. Probably is the short length of this album also the strength making you hungry for more making you play this amazing album over and over again.

The Nebulous Dreams is in my CD player constantly and I carry it everywhere in my portable player. I did regret missing KTAOABC earlier this year at the Onderbroek in
Nijmegen and now I have got this wonderful new CD I regret this even more. The Nebulous Dreams is one of the most striking releases I have heard so far this year and is an absolute recommendation.
