Tony Young aka Autoclav 1.1 makes enchantingly beautiful idm with industrial as well as orchestral influences. Love No Longer Lives Here is the third studio album, if you don’t count in the EP’s and the recent remix album on Hive records. This new album is released by the Tympanik Audio label. The atmosphere in the music is mostly melancholic and relaxed, with a big part for the piano sounds. The counterpart is offered with exciting rhythms and constantly changing sound patterns. Influences of the better ambient idm from the 90s such as Autechre and Boards of Canada echo back into the music. Also some parts with the ambient layers and deep basses remind of the illbient and experimental drum ‘n bass of DJ Spooky.
The choice of samples combined with the rhythms in the music show influences from world music, triphop and alternative dance. In the downtempo track ‘All for You’ the spirit of Massive Attack wanders around. In 'All Long Black Spirals' a heavy layer of guitar is added by Jamie Blacker who himself is active with the industrial project ESA. The track even gets danceable when a tight beat is set in. In any way, the piano is a constant returning factor with Autoclav 1.1 as epicentre in the orchestral spectrum. The breakbeats and downtempo beats make it a pleasurable and sometimes even danceable dynamic whole. ‘Hell is the Face of Love’ introduces a thick bass sound delivered by Dave Pybus, probably better known as bassist of Cradle of Filth. In ‘This Stranger Hope’ the spheres sound deliciously mysterious and ‘Trails Without Pathways’ is an interesting track with a peculiar combination of cello, samples, broken beats and influences from downtempo alternative dance. Love No Longer Lives Here is probably the most melancholic sounding and also most accessible album of Autoclav 1.1. It is surely a very compelling album with beautiful melancholic sounds as well as refreshing ideas.
