The Agony of the Beat

<< Back

The industrial project Roughhausen probably doesn’t ring a bell with the readers. It is a project from the Canadian Jeff Stoddard who previously collaborated with Front Line Assembly and was active as guitar player in projects as Decree and Will. Just like Front Line Assembly, Roughhausen deals in dense layered industrial mixed with EBM. Roughhausen however misses the highly accessible songwriting, which despite the complex arrangements and sound patterns, you do hear with Front Line Assembly . Considering this, Roughhausen might as well be compared with Mentallo & The Fixer. Yet, the Roughhausen album The Agony of the Beat does miss the solid production for which Mentallo is known. Despite the dynamic and layered music Roughhausen did not manage to deliver a very impressive album as such, but it also definitely is not a bad affair and fans of complex industrial-EBM could surely give it a try.
