Sagas

<< Back

This band first got together for the occasion of a single gig, but since they were very successful the band decided to continue. They chose the name Equilibrium and released a demo in 2003. This demo sold quite well and delivered the band its first label deal. The official debut Turis Fratyr resulted in a couple of tours and performances on large scale metal festivals such as Summer Breeze and Wacken Open Air. The new album Sagas is released by Nuclear Blast so the next step in the career of this young pagan folk/black metal band is assured. Equilibrium as such doesn’t introduce anything new to the immensely popular genre, but what they do is on a very high level. All songs are equally strong, with wonderful arrangements and touching different emotions with the lyrics all in the German language, which is quite special in this genre. The album lasts almost 80 minutes and is released with a bonus DVD which features the band live at work. On Sagas the music has an epic feel and whilse symphonic black metal is the continuing basis for the music, elements from folk are added to that. The role of the pan flute and all sorts of sounds from nature is pretty dominant on this album too. Listen for instance to ‘Unbesiegt’ to get an impression. Epic highlights on this album are the compositions ‘Die Weide Unde Der Fluss’, ‘Des Sängers Fluch', and the 18 (!) minutes lengthy epos ‘Mana’, where splendid choir singing and atmospheric pieces create a suitable atmosphere. Sagas is an album which is especially recommended to fans of the music from Turisas, Moonsorrow, Finntroll, and the likes.
