Impact Zone

<< Back

Blank is a duo from Parma, Italy which debuted five years ago with the EP Overhead; and thanks to the remixes by Implant, Moonitor, and Tim Schuldt they got a lot of attention. The release was followed by the first album Artificial Breathing and they managed to answer the great expectations made. Last summer The Maze and Der Mate released an online only EP and Impact Zone is their second album.

They mention a lot of influences themselves, but listening to the album I think Blank could best be described as influenced by Funker Vogt with also a bit of VNV Nation or a sped up Wolfsheim. In fact they combine a dark sound with being catchy at the same time and songs like 'Hellbound' (released as an MP3 single last summer), 'Sick and Dead', 'Counterfeiting', and 'Lead Me' sound good; but not too original.

On the other hand, you have a lot of weak releases in the area of EBM electro with some techno influences and compared to most of that, Blank is among the better ones; thanks to not overly distorting their vocals and the amount of variety on the album. I think it's a benefit there are “only” ten songs on Impact Zone, even though a couple of remixes added would have been nice.

If you like listening to the music on which you dance, Blank could be recommended. Both for their music as well as for their lyrics.
