On this double cd compilation with a total length of more than 143 minutes, the listener is being treated on a wide array of electronic styles in the realms of IDM. Divided over two cd’s on Emerging Organisms 29 projects devoted to producing the more intelligent forms of electronic music are presented. Beautiful sounds, complex arrangements and ever changing patterns, with various sorts of rhythms varying from quiet ambient and glitch to more uptempo drum ‘n bass influences IDM. In many tracks also influences from tribal techno and industrial are featured.
The tracklist on the first cd has a nice build-up with tranquil ambient electronica to start with, followed by tracks from Urusai and Lucidstatic which introduce the first fast rhythms. Next up is a.o. Architect, Tzolk’in and Totakeke who take over with a sound that contains influences from tribal industrial and techno. Talvekoidik brings in symphonic elements in the tribal industrial sound spectrum and S:Cage in turn shows an influence from IDM and industrial.
The second disc contains a.o. the occult layered tribal IDM sounds of Flint Glass, the intelligent electronica from Stendeck (in a remix by Disharmony) and the rhythms of Hecq. Furthermore also a cooperation of Ab Avo with Flaque, Freeze Etch, Mnemonic, Nebulo, Nonplus and Displacer. Definitely not the least of names and for the connoisseur it is enough information to decide to buy this. Moreoever when one realizes that also fairly unknown projects such as Gonormous, Eretusa and Totakeke manage to deliver.
Emerging Organisms is a very good achievement that gives attention to unknown projects that often produce great and innovative dark electronic music.
