The new and third God’s Bow album Follow shows a remarkable growth since the latest album on the now defunct Black Flames label. God’s Bow has not been lazy since then and kept themselves busy with a.o. remix jobs, collaborations with other bands such as Endraum and further refining their own sound. This sound has evolved from electro towards ethereal darkwave and the addition of cellist B.Deutung of Deine Lakaien, drummer Lars Waterman of Mila Mar and cooperating with the band Endraum will surely have contributed to that.

The music of God’s Bow has more depth and has a more organic sound and this combines well with the ethereal vocals and delicate electro rhythms. Musicwise the music of God’s Bow could be categorized somewhere in between Mila Mar, the solo work of Monica Richards and The Frozen Autumn. Some songs are danceable, such as the smooth and accessible single ‘Helpline’. Others are quite ethnic in character, with beautiful melodies and percussion, like one can hear in ‘Wake Awakes’ and ‘Under Heavy Sky’. ‘This Perfect Time’ is a song with a great balance in vocals and sounds and ‘Mosaic’ again shows that God’s Bow can sound catchy too. The atmosphere in the music reminds me more than once of releases on the famous 4AD label. In the monumental title track ‘Follow’, God’s Bow combines the ethnic sounds with forceful darkwave electro and neo-classical influences.

This Follow album has a further second cd with remixes of the tracks ‘Helpline’ and ‘This Perfect Time’, made by a varied selection of artists, among which Controlled Collapse with Psyche, Final Selection, Wumpscut, The Frozen Autumn, Endraum and Dark Territory. Hopefully God’s Bow will reconquer some fans with this new album as they have been out of the picture for a while. Follow is a very accomplished recording and absolutely recommended if you like the music that is mentioned in this review.
