Die Krupps is one of the pioneering band in the realms of both EBM and industrial metal. In the 80’s their sound was dominated by synth and steel percussion and in the 90’s they chose an approach that leaned over towards metal and breathed a strong influence of Metallica. This was affirmed by the Metallica Tribute that resulted in much attention abroad for Die Krupps. Die Krupps is now celebrating their 25 year existence as a band and are working on a come-back too. Of course you’ll have to add not only new material and much performing too that, but also a compilation album with all of the greatest hits from the past collected on it. If only it were to bring the band back into the spotlights, it would be justified, since Die Krupps have been of the big names in the development of electronic industrial music and they can be considered as important as Kraftwerk, Einsturzende Neubauten, Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb.
It took some time but now they have achieved in delivering it: Too Much History will be in stores at 26 october. On Too Much History the electro years are separated from the metal years with a disc for each of the two periods in time. These are released separately as digipack as well as in one set. This is convenient for the electro scene as well as the metal scene, so that a fan of guitars doesn’t have to be confronted with EBM and industrial and the other way around. Beneath this review you can examine the tracklist and as you can see every relevant song from both phases of the band are featured. The songs are fully remastered and this is a big plus to this compilation since it is done very tastefully and although some songs differ from the original, it really sounds like euh…Die Krupps. Furthermore a cover of the Pop Will Eat Itself tune ‘Ich Bin Ein Auslander’ is featured, as well as a new EBM club cracker with ‘5 Millionen’ and a tight new industrial metal song with ‘The Great Divide’. These songs smoothly add to the other classics, so this surely promises something for the near future and new material of Die Krupps.
