Synthesizer

<< Back

Information Society (InSoc) was during the 80’s one of the most influential synthpop groups with a huge fanbase in countries such as Mexico , Brasil and Japan . Information Society is a.o. known from the hits ‘Running’ and most notably ‘What’s On Your Mind (Pure Energy)’, with the Star Trek samples. The band is now back with a completely new album for the first time since 1992 and this is a very fun recording. Paul Robb and James Cassidy are still here from the original line-up and in the last track ‘Synthesizer’ also the orginal frontman Kurt Harland takes part. For the other tracks Christopher Anton has been hired as vocalist and his vocals are very pleasurable.

Information Society makes synthpop with a strong 80’s influence, as can be heard in uptempo songs like ‘Baby Just Wants’, ‘I Love it When…’ and ‘I Like the Way You Werk It’.   Information Society however doesn’t stay away from playing with modern sounds and rhythms too, so the music on Synthesizer should appeal to fans of modern electropop like Mesh or De/Vision as well. ‘More to This’ and ‘This way Tonight’ contain phat rhythms that come straight from R ‘n B music and this results in very fresh sounding danceable tunes. Also ‘Somnambulistic’ is a strong track and the vocals in ‘Burning Bridges’ somehow remind strongly of those of The Cruxshadows.. Musicwise it however is fully Information Society with it’s synthetic electropop.

The production and sound is quite slick and the songs are overall pretty good. Next to the club centered danceable tunes a more atmospheric and tranquil tune like ‘Run Away’ delivers too. In this song InSoc veteran Amanda Kramer does the vocals. ‘Back in the Day’ was last spring already released as an EP, with remixes and ‘I Like the Way You Werk It’ as extra track. The conclusion after having listened to this album is that Information Society is back with a strong recording. Synthesizer can easily be categorized among the best electropop releases in 2007. Perhaps even among the three best.
