32Crash is a collaboration between the vocalist Jean-Luc DeMeyer of Front 242 and the duo Len Lemeire (Implant) and Jan d’Hooghe (Implant/Ringel-S). Jean-Luc brings in his typical vocals and the men of Implant create the exciting electronic sounds and rhythms in which EBM, electro and pop prove to be a perfect marriage. The first collaboration was in the song 'The Creature' on the Implant album Audio Blender. Now there is a full EP. ‘Humanity’ is a slightly melancholic and quiet yet gloomy flavoured electro track. In ‘Merlin’s Gun’ the tension is increased with much attention to the groove in the track. Here the vocals of Jean-Luc give direction again too in the forceful electro which also has tastefully added female vocals. This song is really great in the remix on this EP, which is from the hands of no-one less than Front 242’s Patrick Codenys. ‘Lone Ranger’ invokes images of Mad Max or Blade Runner and perfectly fits into the atmosphere of 32Crash, that with much attention to sci-fi elements, invokes images of a retro-futuristic society in the aftermath of an intergalactic battle. The remix of this song from the hand of Sebastian Komor however doesn’t add much more to the original than a club focussed drumbeat and trance sequences. ‘Isomodia’, with a retro-sequencer sound and the strikingly melodious vocals from Jean-Luc DeMeyer, is after ‘Merlin’s Gun’ the next highlight on this EP. This song is also present in a club centered Side-Effect remix. The techno remix by Danny Rodriguez of ‘Humanity’ is not very exciting. The chaotic sounding ‘Fibers, Carbon and Germs’ musicwise is quite different comapred to the previous material with the punky sampled guitars and heavy drum rhythms. The last track ‘ioReL’ is again somewhat chaotic but also more experimental, in the vocals from Jean-Luc as well as in the more difficult electronica and energetic drumsounds. Unfortunately this song is also a bit too chaotic to really deliver. This is a bit of a weak ending of an EP with some really strong tracks like ‘Isomodia’ and ‘Merlin’s Gun’. I am curious what the first full length album of 32Crash will sound like.
