Furious Friends (+ Out of Sight)

<< Back

In the genre of drums and trumpets on december 6 th 2006 the Polish label Beast of Prey released the result of a split between Krepulec and Out of Sight named “Furious friends”.

According to the leaflet with information that was added to the cd this disc contains 33 minutes of furious commands. Well, I haven’t heard that many furious commands yet, but I must say that despite of the home-made quality of the sound the cd doesn’t seem all that bad. In this case I can see through the low quality recordings and find Krepulec and Out of sight creating a nice atmosphere.

Though the first song seems like a riddle to me, the far too long lasting intro of first part of the song sounds like there’s a brass band passing by until after one and a halve minute the martial music sets in just the way I like it. Dark and slowly pushing. Keeping that in mind I find that “Lost dream” is a nice example, where it is mainly about the chord that is constantly being played on the guitar. Simple but efficient. A bit more theatrical and noisy is Out of sight’s remix of “1996/halter 2” . A constant cracking and some snare drums, bells and lyrics spoken by a man I cannot understand, probably in Polish. Just like “Maciek” that also sounds like it could be a hit on a neo folk dance floor. But it is all a bit incoherent which is a shame. The songs itself are missing a climax and just keep going on and on without much progression in it. However, the Polish language does make up for it giving the music a charming and suitable extra feature.

The original way of packing the disc is absolutely a nice extra, the front is made out of light brown cardboard on which a photo is printed, tied with an embroidered ribbon and foil, even hand numbered with a serial number up to a 222 limit. Therefore I am rather disappointed I only got a promo edition of the album and not the real one and I am actually quite curious to such an original and exceptional wrapping.
