Sturmpercht is a young Austrian experimental, folkloristic group, from the musical environment of Allerseelen, Axel F. of Werkraum, Waldteufel and Sangre Cavallum.
With Geister im Waldgebirg Sturmpercht presents a journey through the Austrian/European forests and Alpine mountains with all their strange creatures, fairies, myths and legends. All songs are sung in German and with song titles such as Waldheimat, Durch Berg und Tal and Im Jahreswandel you might have an impression of the pagan feeling within the whole album. With instruments used like guitar, cymbal, accordion, drums together with samples of diverse types of animals/creatures Geister im Waldgebirg presents a large variety of songs; from powerful martial folk hymns to fragile folk-ballads combined with avant-garde song which Sturmpercht calls Alpine folk. Although there is a large variety of song types, it all blends very well and makes this album even more interesting. Together with the beautiful artwork of this digi-pack it has become an album which pulls you in world of Sturmpercht and let you dance with trolls, faeries and other creatures. I recommend this great album to all (neo)folk lovers who aren’t afraid of a little experiment!
