'Jupiter's Child' is a delicious melancholic and laid-back wave song. The first song of this new EP from the gentlemen of Final Selection immediately convinces me completely. Musically Final Selection sounds a bit like bands such as Diary of Dreams or Diorama, but one could also trace some Depeche Mode influences. The music moves back and forth between darkwave and synth pop, sometimes with elements and sounds form futurepop or electro added to it. Final Selection is one of the best bands on the Polish Black Flames Records and has a good chance to appeal to a wider audience with their music, especially in Germany because the band need not be afraid to get bad distribution or lack of media attention in the various music magazines. The debut cd of Final Selection for example was for Sonic Seducer convincing enough to add Final Selection to a top 10 list of best gothic bands ever. The second song on this release 'White Star' is a bit faster and poppier, reason why it also is a suitable song for Namnambulu to remix somewhat further on this record. 'Fade into You', een cover van de indie band Mazzy Star, is again a slow and precious song, nicely composed. 'Heading for Graceland' is again a melancholic quality pop song. With the instrumental 'At the Gates of Utopia' the first part of this EP ends, which they have named Daydreams. After that the second part starts, named Nightshades, where songs of this EP and the debut cd of Final Selection have been remixed by various acts like Aslan Faction, Namnambulu, MC1R, Rector Scanner, E.S.R. or Z Prochek. The Z Prochek and Namnambulu remixes are the best ones i think. Final Selection has made a splendid appetizer for the upcoming full length album with this EP, and is a band to keep an ear out for!
