Decadence Revolution

<< Back

Deadchovsky is amusing, but not very much more than that. They compare themselves with Bauhaus, Joy Division, Christian Death, Danse Society and Cinema Strange. One can hear these influences on the debut album “Decadence Revolution”, but they still have a long way to go. The music is okay and entertaining, but the singing is very badly mixed. It’s totally unintelligible. After listening to this album several times, I still can’t hear in what language Afterglauk (responsible for the ‘one-vocal-cord’) is singing. I believe that his monotone singing is in English... But who can tell?
There are some very nice pieces of music on this album. The ensemble playing of the one-string bass and the guitar are very good, especially on ‘Tears of Crust’ and ‘Solene is a Batcave’.  The accordion on ‘Le Sandwichier glauque de Montmartre’ is also pleasantly surprising. The very slow acceleration in ‘Der Verfall’ is done nicely.
However, sometimes the songs gone on too long (like ‘Alcool’) and generally speaking, this album doesn’t stay interesting. Closing song “Rendez-moi mon Cerveay’ just sucks. So “Decadence Revolution” isn’t very strong, but does show us that Deadchovsky is a potentially good band. I’m interested in what they will bring us in the future.
As can be expected in this genre, a lot of attention has been paid to the act: check the site, just for the fun of it. The following anecdote tells us how the band has come together:
“Lois Jon Slut chooses to cross the desert, alone with his guitar and some vodka at knockdown price. He walked hundred and hundred miles and miraculously found an oasis. He suddenly heard a whisper coming from nowhere: "Who are thou foreign outsider and what are thou doing so far away from thy home?".
- My name is Lois Jon Slut and I come from... well...from...from Trespass... something like that... And who are thou?
- People call me Murmur and I come from Sleeping Children... or anything else... I just remember having a dispute with a strange being with a mohawk... a corncob I think...
- I've got a guitar!
- I've got a voice, a keyboard... and a guitar as well!
- Join me and we shall be powerfull! I know a good bass, it could help us.
- Let's go!”
