The Into Darkness Tour of the Deathstars called in at
Eindhoven
on October 21
st. Unfortunately one of the four bands was unable to attend; the Birthday Massacre had cancelled due to studio recordings of the new album. The empty space was filled in by Lacrimas Profundere, a band that fitted in well between the artists of this evening.
The kickoff on this tightly scheduled evening was performed at the clock of zeven by the
Dope stars Inc. from
Italy
. A gothic pop band with an image that seemed completely fit for the mainly young audience. It was tight packed against the stage, all assured of a spot up front. Dope Stars Inc. gave away a nice sounding set, but was not able to impress me. Perhaps it was due to my own age.
Afterwards it was turn for the unexpectedly announced
Lacrimas Profundere. I had seen this band with singer and icon Rob Vitacca one year ago at the Effenaar. Unfortunately at that time the band didn’t impress a lot and I found their gig without any enthusiasm. I was very surprised to find the performance at Dynamo to be pounding and sparkling. This time they clearly were in the mood and the audience gave a great positive response. As if it wasn’t packed enough, everyone seemed to stand even closer to the stage, making it an impossible task for all those poor photographers to get a good position for pictures. With eleven o’clock as hard deadline for the evening, there wasn’t time to play an extended set, but Lacrimas Profundere managed to give a great performance in the limited time they had.
Diary of Dreams were up next as scheduled. With Adrian Hates and Gaun:A and his striking Mohawk haircut as eye catcher, the music of Diary of Dreams turned out to be the least accessible of all the performing bands this evening. Less popular, more obscure but at some times light hearted; the music wasn’t that convincing. Perhaps I missed the atmosphere I sensed the last time I saw them, but perhaps it was due to the audience that was clearly longing for the last act of the evening. Afterwards singer Adrian Hates told me he had a sour thought and wasn’t feeling quite well. I think this was noticeable during the performance. A pity.
And than, as if everyone was waiting endlessly for them, finally the
Deathstars came on stage. A sense of Marilyn Manson, gothic pop music; with singer Whiplasher who made eyes with al the boys while the girls in the audience screamed at him. His voice sounds a bit like Zak Tell (Clawfinger) at times, the music seems inferior to the show, but tightly performed nevertheless. It all sounds watertight. The target group is clear, and they are abundantly represented. The show of the Deathstars can’t go wrong.
Lacrimas Profundere, the band of which I had a low expectancy turned out to play the most convincing show this evening. Diary of Dreams had to stand second, but probably due to singer Adrian Hates who wasn’t feeling well. And Dope Stars Inc. and Deathstars – well, they were nice to see and hear, but they were doing it more for show and appearance than for the music. They sounded well; it looked great, but nothing more than that. Review by: Nando
