It seems like The Netherlands are finally ready for Japanese bands! In one week we are honoured with visits from Dir en Grey, Mono, ánd Plastic Tree: a true delight for fans! Although all from
Japan
these three bands don’t have a lot in common, it’s not easy to put Plastic Tree in any genre. The Cure and Radiohead are mentioned as biggest influences, so it looks like it will be a pleasant evening tonight in the P60.
Right on time the band appears in front of the half filled venue. And even though their roots might be in the colourful visual kei, the band looks sophisticatedly dressed in dark tonight when they enter the stage by a meant applause from the audience. Musically the band shows some more colour: of I would compare the group to the Cure I’d pick ‘Friday I’m in love’ over anything from ‘Disintegration’. Not that it really matters; the band could easily find the way to the hearts of many listeners. As usual the audience is more then enthusiastic to see the men on stage, and it’s always funny to hear Dutch people sing along to Japanese lyrics.
Compared to the shy (or maybe arrogant?) stage act of some land mates, Plastic Tree really tries to connect with the people. It’s not a surprise that the knowledge of the English language is very poor, yet the group tries to convince the audience with some Dutch words (‘Amsterdaaaam!’) which makes the live presentation more likeable then that of many others. Just like before the Dutch JRock organisation knows how to please Japanese music fans, and I can’t wait what they’ll have in store for us next time!
