Freudstein - Friday 15 June 2007
City: Arnhem
Location: Willemeen
Website: http://www.freudstein.co.uk
Bands: Freudstein

Freudstein is a British band which provide the listener with a next to impossible combination of electronic sounds, inspired by bands like Depeche Mode, Slayer and Boards Of Canada. Yes, that is indeed a bizarre combination, especially when mentioning that the vocals used are also a hybrid of moaning, screaming and clean voices. And how does this work live? A rather small party, present today in the Willemeen, can tell you that.

Freudstein is at least enjoying themselves. The mood is good, both the band and the audience are having a good time and that make a good preparation for the gig. The music - indeed a weird mixture of styles - is interesting from the first to the last minute, making it an hour that passes away rapidly. Imagine Wolfsheim on crack, using breakcore beats, poured in some horror/punk-jacket and you kind of get the idea for tonight. Normally, the performers are supported by a live bass-player (and I read dancers?, on the website) but it's only David and Andrew here tonight. The duo combine singing and playing, and by jumping on and off the stage, into the 'crowd' it makes a good presentation. I have nothing to add than mentioning this was a welcome performance, with outstanding variations in music & performance, and overall an easy-to-digest party-band. Digesting the beer was unfortunately more difficult..
