Reviews: - Project Destiny - Gaby
Dignity is a young and spontaneous band and has dropped their great debut album on the metal market. According to keyboard player Frank Pitters, Dignity is here to stay. So enjoy the Dignity story.
Can you tell me why Roland quit Edenbridge to start something
completely new?
Roland played for more than 7 years in Edenbridge and it's very human that the relationship ends some day if you don't have any responsibility or musical influences in the band. The relationship between Edenbridge and Roland was comparable with a marriage where the gap got wider and wider, ending in a logical divorce. He was “just their drummer”, while Roland wanted more influence and responsibility. That's why he wanted to concentrate more on Dignity.
How did you find the man with the golden voice, Jake E.?
In Austria it is impossible to find a frontman that we had in mind. He should have a powerful voice, great ideas for lyrics and melody lines and should also looked like a frontman. So we checked a lot of bands that we liked, but Jake's work with his band Dreamland impressed us a lot. So it was obvious to get in contact with him. We were really really lucky because he liked the music and had fantastic ideas for vocal lines. And after a short visit in Vienna (where we recorded some demo vocals and killed some beer) he was in the band. He prepared all the vocals in Sweden, then he came to Vienna and sang all the songs in less then one week! It was a great time with much work but also a lot more fun! Every band dreams of a big record deal, How did you end up with
Napalm Records?
From the beginning on Napalm was the label where we wanted to go. Because we knew that Napalm makes an extraordinary job by promoting their bands. It's also a really big metal label that has a lot of power in the scene, so we gained a lot of attention. It really feels fantastic being part of the big Napalm family!
Project Destiny has just been released. What are the first
reactions on the album?
Very good so far. We got a lot positive responses from all over the world. It was great to read that we also got such a positive review from your page. Thanks for that. All this positive response helps a lot with staying self-confident and continue with great power on the way we have chosen with our music!
The song “Inner Demons” is one of the strongest songs on the album. Mainly because of the powerful keyboard work. These keyboard lines do remind me of bands like Nightwish and Sonata Artica. Are these bands some of your favourites?
You are right when you think of these bands. In the late 90s when the Scandinavian bands came up, they all had a very cool style to play keyboard. A little bit old fashioned, but combined with cool modern sounds and an incredible technique. Think of Janne from COB. I mean he is crazy...ha-ha! Sonata Arctica and Nightwish are some of my favorite bands and their music of course influenced me in the earlier days! Personally I love the last song on the album. It kind of takes me back to my childhood. Why did you guys chose to cover this particularity song “Don’t pay the ferry man” by Chris de Burgh.
We had some very different reactions for our version of the song “Don't pay the ferryman”: some liked it a lot, others think it’s rubbish. It was Roland who came up with the idea to play this song, just for fun. At first, it wasn’t even planned to put it on our album. But when we recorded it and Jake’s vocals joined the whole thing, we thought it was too good to just leave it off. So finally, it’s a nice tune to wrap up Project Destiny. The 80s had some great melodies that really fit
very good to power metal. I think that's because so many metal bands cover pop songs from the 80s.
Project Destiny is really a amazing album, and Napalm records is one of the biggest record companies in Europe and America. How come Dignity is not touring at the moment??
Good question...ha-ha! Of course we want to go on tour to prove that we are not just a studio project. At the moment we are looking for a good package that fits perfectly to us! So we hope that we see you all on a Dutch stage soon. There we’re gonna play our asses off, that's for sure...ha-ha!
So check our website and MySpace site for upcoming dates!
Are there any plans to play some summer festivals in 2009?
Of course we want to play on festivals next summer and we are already in contact with some guys, but nothing is confirmed yet.
If Dignity had to chose a band to go on tour with, which band would it be and why?
It would be great going on tour with Edguy or Hammerfall. But any tour that comes is a great experience and we are all looking forward to realize these plans!
Dignity has a stable line-up, can we expect more or less the same
material on upcoming albums?
At the moment we are composing new songs because we want to release the next album same time next year! But it's too early to say in which the direction the song go and where they will finally end. But we will not change our course that's for sure!
Thanks for you time! I hope to see you really soon on stage somewhere in the Netherlands! Have you got some final words to say to our readers? Hope to see you on tour soon in the Netherlands to have a good time and enjoy our show!
