Grimbergen (int)

"Something is wrong" is the second demo CD from Grimbergen, the solo project of Edinburgh based artist Nathan Clemence, formed in 2001 as an outlet for dark, atmospheric electronic music. Consisting of five long tracks, this new piece begins with dense drones, before slow, creeping percussion sets in, whilst mournful classical strings increase feelings of sadness with occasional respite from more uplifting melodic elements. This is music that could roughly be described as a meeting of dark ambient and neo-classical, although the rhythmic aspects and synthetic nature of certain sounds take this work to other fields. A number of respected artists could be claimed as inspiration, but it is believed that only rarely they become evident, and that Grimbergen can stand out amongst the growing crowds. Or maybe not; it's all subjective.
